Moebius Syndrome Conference Scholarship Fund
What is this fund?
The Conference Scholarship Fund was created to help defray costs for those with Moebius Syndrome who are attending a conference for the first time. The scholarships are given during the registration process. The first year this fund was in affect, we were able to help 30 new attendees. The more money raised, the more people we can help.
Who is eligible?
Anyone with Moebius Syndrome who will be attending a Moebius Syndrome conference for the very first time. There will be one scholarship given per family. Funds may be limited. It is suggested you send in your registrations early and mark the appropriate box as a new attendee. Registration forms will be available at www.moebiussyndrome.com closer to time for the conference or if you are on the mailing list, forms will be sent out with the newsletters. You can also sign up for the mailing list at that Moebius Syndrome Foundation web site.
How can I help?
DONATIONS ARE NEEDED. After each conference the fund is depleted, we need to start all over again. The more monies raised, the more people we can help. You can help by donating proceeds from garage sales, car washes, bake sales, etc.. Ask your family and friends for help. Get your community involved by asking for help from your local service clubs, Girl/Boy Scouts, church groups, ask your local newspapers to do an article about Moebius. Donated funds must be marked for the Conference Scholarship Fund.
Why is it important for those with Moebius Syndrome and family members to attend a conference?
Because this condition is so rare it is very difficult for those with Moebius Syndrome to relate to the rest of the world and to keep up with medical news that might be helpful in their own personal struggles. Being with others that understand, can not only be a comfort but can also be a source of support and strength for those living with Moebius Syndrome every day. The conferences offer us the opportunity to learn more about this condition from experts in the medical field, and from others that have learned from their own personal experience. We learn about the ongoing research and sometimes participate in that research. Many who have attended these conferences refer to this group as their "Moebius family" because we are brought together by a condition of birth and have a close bond thats not possible to have with others.
